CK NAC CK NAC................................................................

Important diagnostic parameter in follow up of myocardial infraction.
Normal Range
: Men : 25-200 IU/L at 370C
Women : 25-170 IU/L at 370C
An elevated CK level helps in differentiating myocardial infarction from congestive heart failure & other conditions causing damage to liver because liver contains no CK.

CK MB CK MB................................................................

It is characteristic parameter in follow up of myocardial infarction.
Normal Range
: 0-25 IU/L at 370C
Elevated levels of CK-MB also seen in
  • Myocarditis
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Polymyostics
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning

Creatinine Creatinine..............................................................

Normal Range
: Men : 0.6 - 1.6 mg/dl
Women : 0.6 - 1.4 mg/dl
Increase in Creatinine level seen in
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Shock
  • Mechanical obstruction of urinary tract
  • Kidney failure
  • Muscular dystrophy

G6PD G6PD......................................................................

Screening of deficiency of G-6-PD is essential to avoid hemolytic episodes and anemia
Normal Range
: 4.6 - 13.5 at 30°C
6.4 - 18.7 at 37°C
  • Treatment with certain anti-malarial or sulfa drugs in case of G-6-PD deficient subject can lead to hemolytic episodes & hemolytic anemia.
  • Hereditary abnormalities can be the cause of enzyme deficiency.

GGT GGT.........................................................................

An important parameter in diseases of liver, biliary tract and pancreas
Normal Range
: Men : 9 - 52 IU/L at 37°C
Women : 5 - 32 IU/L at 37°C
GGT activity increases in case of
  • Chronic hepatitis
  • Metastic  carcinoma
  • Viral hepatitis
  • Cholecystitis
GGT activity is also useful for differential diagnosis of bone and liver disease as it is not elevated in any form of bone disorder.

Glucose Glucose...................................................................

This is useful for the diagnosis & follow up of diabetes mellitus.
Normal Range
: Fasting glucose : 70 - 110 mg/dl
Post prandial / random sugar : up to 140 mg/dl
Increase in glucose level (hyperglycemia) is due to
  • Deficiency of insulin
  • Slight increase is noticed due to hyperactivity of pituitary, thyroid and adrenal glands.
Decrease in glucose level (hypoglycemia) is due to
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Hypopituitarism
  • Glucose storage diseases.
  • Because of an overdose of insulin for the treatment of diabetes

Alpha HBDH Alpha HBDH.............................................................

HBDH forms one of four cardiac panel enzyme i.e. LDH, CK-M, SGOT, HBDH
Normal Range
: 95-250 IU/L at 370C
Elevated ά HBDH activity is observed in
  • Muscular dystrophy (especially in children)
  • Nephrosis
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Myocardial  necrosis

HDL Cholesterol (HDL C) HDL Cholesterol (HDL - C).........................................

It is an important tool used to assess an individual risk of developing coronary heart diseases since a strong negative relationship between HDL-C concentration & the incidence of CHD was reported
Normal Range
: Male : 35 - 80 mg/dl
Female : 42 - 88 mg/ dl
Lower HDL levels & increased cholesterol to HDL ratio can be related to risk for coronary artery disease & complications like hypertension.

Hemoglobin Hemoglobin ..............................................................

Hemoglobin serves an important role as respiratory pigment in a reversible fashion by combining with oxygen.
Normal Range
: Male : 13.6 - 18.0 gm/dl
Female : 11.5 - 16.4 gm/dl
Determination of hemoglobin is useful for screening for anemia and to observe severity of anemia.
